Youth in scouting receive age-appropriate character education and values programming delivered by positive adult mentors. Scouting serves youth beginning in kindergarten through age 20 in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturing. Key components include: leadership development, citizenship training, learning to choose right over wrong decisions, physical fitness and healthy lifestyles, peer leadership, self-confidence and self-reliance and life skills. In 2016, 246 youth were involved in scouting in Logan County, and 200 registered adults served as volunteers. 31,850 hours of service were delivered to Scouts in Logan County at ten different locations throughout Logan County including those in Lincoln, Atlanta, Hartsburg, and Mt. Pulaski. Funds from the United Way of Logan County are used to provide scholarships for youth who could not otherwise afford to participate. The funds are also allocated to pay for training for local volunteers to strengthen program effectiveness.
