According to the U.S. Census Bureau, it is estimated that18% of the population in Logan County is age 65 or older. Services provided through partner agencies CAPCIL (Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois) include transportation and meal provision for those who need assistance. The Oasis Senior Center provides social, educational and wellness opportunities for seniors at their lovely facility in Lincoln, Illinois.
CAPCIL's Senior Nutrition Program served over 15,400 meals to seniors in their homes in 2016. They also provide meals to congregate sites and provided over 6,800 in the county last year. This service provides meals for seniors who cannot cook for themselves, and also a caring visitor to check on them when meals are delivered. This allows clients to remain in their own homes where they are comfortable. This also provides caregivers with an assurance that their loved ones are being checked on in regular fashion, allowing them to continue regular work and other activities. Donations are suggested for this service but not required.
The Senior Transportation Program, also provided by CAPCIL, provided over 6,600 rides for seniors last year. That number is projected to grow this year. The transportation service also allows seniors to remain independent, and gives them a means to get to appointments, social events or for shopping when needed. Donations are suggested at $2.50 per ride, but not required if seniors cannot pay for this service.
The Senior Citizens of Logan County - The Oasis - is an organization that provides many services for seniors as mentioned above. Their programs touch thousands of seniors in the county annually. They provide opportunities for travel, transportation, social events including dances, bingo, quilting and other fun activities. Keeping seniors active and healthy and involved in the community is a great service.
