The American Red Cross Serving Central Illinois provides local families with services in the case of a disaster, such as a tornado or fire. In 2016, 4 families were assisted and and additional 2 families have been helped during 2017. They also provide training in preparedness for disasters and coordinate volunteers to assist areas in crisis. Over 200 people annually have been trained in disaster preparedness. In 2017, they also installed over 42 free smoke alarms for their Home Fire Campaign, assisted by 44 local volunteers. United Way of Logan County funded helps this partner agency by allocating donations that is used to provide food, shelter, clothing, medication, household items and mental health services for local disaster victims. Funding is also used for volunteer training, supplies, equipment and personnel to support disaster relief and community preparedness education to ensure disaster readiness and preparedness.
